Camp Overview
 
Join us for an exciting musical journey where Minecraft meets piano! This beginner-friendly camp introduces young musicians to foundational piano skills through the beloved world of Minecraft. Perfect for children who have little to no piano experience and want to discover if piano lessons are right for them.
 
What Your Child Will Learn
 
Piano Basics: Quickly identify white keys (A-G) and proper hand positioning
Technique: Play the A minor pentascale with all five fingers using proper technique and metronome practice
Chords: Master the A minor chord
Rhythm: Read and play quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes, whole notes, and rests
Time Signatures: Understand 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 time and what they mean
Music Reading: Introduction to the Grand Staff, Treble Clef, Bass Clef, and finding Middle C
Articulation: Learn legato (smooth) and staccato (detached) playing styles
Creativity: Improvise Minecraft-style music using the A minor pentascale
Repertoire: Learn "Steve's Lava Chicken Song"

About Your Instructor
Ms Megan is classically trained with over 20 years of piano teaching experience, working with students from preschoolers to adults. With a background in composition and graduate-level music theory, she specializes in combining aural skills, creative composition, and music literacy to help students become both music lovers and strong piano players. Having initially learned by ear herself, she understands different learning styles and pathways to musical success.
 
Home Practice
While access to a keyboard or piano at home is highly recommended for reviewing concepts, it's not required. This camp serves as an excellent opportunity to gauge your child's interest before investing in an instrument and lessons.
 
Why This Camp Works
Music theory and reading music can seem intimidating, but when students understand that musical symbols are simply tools to express their creative thoughts and share musical ideas with others, everything clicks. This camp builds that foundation while keeping learning fun and engaging through the Minecraft themes.
