When we first launched Little Chords, our vision was to create digital resources for families struggling with at-home piano practice. As experienced piano teachers, we knew the frustration parents face when their kids can't remember what to practice after lessons, especially if they're not musically knowledgeable themselves.
Our initial solution? A comprehensive piano course with daily video lessons and downloadable practice guides. But here's the twist - it didn't quite hit the right note.
Why? We were trying to cater to everyone - beginner adults, elementary students, and even our own toddlers. When your 4-year-old says, "Mom, I'm bored," you know you've missed the mark! (Kids - our toughest critics, right? 🙄)
Then, inspiration struck. Ms. Lani envisioned a children's board book introducing the C Pentascale through dancing musical characters. We excitedly discussed it late one night, planting the seed for what would become our passion project.
Fast forward through four years of teaching young piano students, and our dream is finally becoming reality. This September, we're launching "The Pentascale Dance" - a delightful board book that brings the five notes of the C Pentascale to life as dancing friends.
Perfect for our youngest music enthusiasts (0-7 years old), this book lays the foundation for a lifelong love of music. It's designed to engage little ones through:
Colorful, dancing note characters
Simple, rhythmic text
Playful introduction to basic music concepts
The best part? You need absolutely NO musical knowledge to share this story with your little ones. (Wondering what a pentascale is? Don't worry! It's just 5 musical notes in a row, and our book explains it in a fun, easy-to-understand way.)
But we're not stopping there! We're also working on a comprehensive piano lesson book for budding musicians aged 3-7. While it won't be ready until 2025, we're excited to share a sneak peek this fall.
This upcoming piano book will cover essential skills like:
Locating notes on the piano
Understanding dynamics (forte and piano)
Playing staccato and legato notes
Following rhythms and tempos
What makes it special? Each lesson will feature a QR code linking to a short animated video, reinforcing the concepts. It's the perfect blend of traditional piano teaching and modern technology, crafted by two moms with over 20 years of teaching experience. We've designed it so that parents and caregivers don't need any musical background to help their kids succeed - all the support you need is right there in the book!
Want to be first in line when our board book "The Pentascale Dance" launches this September? Join our waitlist! As a bonus, you'll get exclusive access to the first few lessons of our upcoming piano book when they're ready this fall.
We're perfecting every detail because that's what we want for our own kids and students - only the best. Sign up now and be part of our musical journey, no prior music knowledge required!
